Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure where a specialized handheld tool with a sloped blade of 14-18 fine needles is used to create strokes that mimic the appearance of real eyebrow hairs. These needles delicately scratch the skin's surface without penetrating it, allowing special microblading pigment to fill the tiny scratches and achieve a natural, feathery look. This technique results in a much softer effect compared to traditional eyebrow tattoos and gradually fades over time.
Microblading typically lasts between 12 to 18 months, depending on your skin type, and may last even longer. People with oilier skin may experience quicker fading. It's recommended to schedule a touch-up 4 to 6 weeks after the initial procedure to ensure all lines and colors have settled and to make any necessary adjustments or add extra hair strokes. Subsequent touch-ups depend on personal preference and the level of fading. As the pigment fades, it will leave your eyebrows looking as they did before you had microblading so annual touch-ups are important to keep the colour from fading and keep your brows in shape.
Healing time for microblading is between 2 to 4 weeks. During this period, your brows will go through several phases over the course of the 4 weeks following your initial procedure. Don't panic—trust the process and be sure to follow your aftercare instructions carefully. See more below in What to Expect While Healing to understand the phases of healing over the first 4 weeks.
Some clients may find the procedure slightly uncomfortable, but it's generally manageable. I use a numbing agent throughout the process to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
Following the pre-care instructions is crucial to minimize discomfort and prevent bleeding during the procedure. I will send these to you a few days before your appointment.
When having microblading for the first time, a minimum of two sessions is what is needed by most clients, spaced 4-8 weeks apart.
Microblading is a two-step process. The initial session is used for mapping your brows and building the foundation of your brows. The touch-up visit is where we can additional hair strokes, layer the colour, and fill in any gaps where hair strokes may not have been taken as well by your skin.
Touch-up appointments are important even if you feel it's unnecessary, as the initial work needs reinforcement to prevent premature fading.
There are a few prerequisites when it comes to microblading. Below is a list of who would not be eligible for the procedure:
If you are diabetic - (will need a doctor's note)
If you are pregnant or nursing
If you are under the age of 18
If you tend to keloid (we could run a test patch)
If you have had any injectables or any laser treatments on your face within the last 2 weeks
If you are undergoing chemotherapy (we can do microblading 4 month post-chemo)
If you have an autoimmune disease (will need a doctor's note)
If you have had previously microblading work that has been overworked or over saturated
Yes, I need to see your brows before agreeing to work over any previous work (a picture taken in natural light without makeup is fine). I charge full price for touch-ups on previous work, with an additional fee for any necessary color correction.
The initial procedure takes between 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the type of brows we create. This time includes numbing and mapping of the brows. Touch-up sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes less than the initial procedure, as the main mapping is already done and not all hair strokes need to be redone.
